Espacio de Arte, a local non-profit arts organization promoting Hispanic arts and culture in the Pacific Northwest, is hosting a performance by world famous flamenco dancer and choreographer, Belén Maya.
Among the most highly acclaimed flamenco artists in Spain and a pioneer in expanding the limits of modern flamenco, Maya will be presenting her recent work Romnia at the Rainier Arts Center on April 22, 2017 at 7:30.
To be clear, Romnia is not a flamenco show. Romnia, women, in Romany, is a celebration of Gypsyness, without victimization, but with a sometimes compassionate, sometimes joyful look at the plight of women, whose courage to survive has led them to a new ethical and aesthetic commitment.
Belén Maya presents a retro-progressive artistic exercise:her movements her roots and her wings- are simultaneously going back to the beginning and toward the future. Come join us for a gypsy experience that is ancient and yet a breakthrough modern dance event.
